| The stock market in Mauritius surged to new record levels during the week as all three market indices, SEMDEX, SEMTRI and SEM-7, reached new levels for the first time. The all-share price index, SEMDEX, after having moved up to a new record high of 733.80 points on Thursday 20 January, closed at 732.49 points on Friday 21st.
Since the beginning of 2005, the SEMDEX has registered a 21.72 points gain, moving up by 3.05%. The Total Return Index, SEMTRI, after having hit a new high of 1,684.75 points on Thursday 20, closed Friday’s trading session at 1,681.72 points, gaining a hefty 61.8 points since the beginning of the year or 3.82%.
An analysis of the evolution of the prices of listed stocks indicates that out of the 43 stocks figuring on the Official List, 23 moved up during the week, 15 remained stable and 5 went down. The 5 best performing stocks for the week were: Air Mauritius (+13.83%), Mauritian Eagle Insurance (+8.7%), Courts (+6.25%), General Investment & Development Company (Ordinary) (+6.25%) and Compagnie des Magasins Populaires (+6%).
